Make something
It may be the Blue Peter approach to charm and seduction, but there's no better way of showing your affection than by constructing something special for them. Don't worry if you're about as artistic as an elephant with a paintbrush. It really is the thought that counts. What to make: A Valentine 'tree': Get yourself one of those photo stands made with lots of wire and crocodile clips. Next, take passport shots of yourself in different attractive poses. Mix 'em up at random. Clip on a few roses to taste. Congratulate yourself on a job well done.

So cheap it doesn't cost anything, but could still come at a price. Even if you don't have the voice of an angel, it takes guts to burst into song in front of your loved one, and they can only admire your courage. If your chosen 'victim' is a little shy, they're not going to thank you for jumping on the table in your local boozer to deliver your serenade. Nor does it look too good if you peter out midway through. So, learn your words if you're hoping for an encore.
