Missing mobile money
Question
My mobile phone was stolen and a massive bill was built up by whoever took it. Can my mobile provider make me pay for the calls made once it was stolen, but before I reported it and the phone was barred? It's such a lot of money.
Answer
Whether or not you are responsible for paying for calls made from your phone after it was stolen, but before it was reported stolen will depend on your contract. If your provider is charging you for calls made after it was reported stolen and the phone was barred then you can dispute these charges.
In addition, there may still be contractual or monthly charges, which you are responsible for until the end of the contract period. Again, each company will have its own policy on this.
You may want to contact your local Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) for more information and help in challenging these charges. If you do decide to contact them it's important you have your contract with you, so that the advisor at the CAB can help to give you the best possible advice.
